Fight Highlights: Fight Till the END
Well. . . that was a pretty crazy night.
You can get an idea, but you never know how the fight will begin, how your opponent will move. . . you have to trust your reflexes and skill, you have to adapt on the fly and let your heart take you to places that your mind never believed that you could survive.
That is exactly what I faced this weekend. On a couple of weeks notice, I took on an opponent from the Ukraine that I knew nothing about (my favorite way to do it). I implemented my game plan of utilizing footwork, timing, and range control in the first two rounds.
Round three is where it all went South (with Round 3 and 4 being the most important here in Thailand). I took my corner’s advice too literally and overextended with my forward pressure. I also got my Muay Thai cherry popped and suffered a cut that required stitches for the first time in nearly 40 fights (Amateur / Pro) all as I attempted to avoid a second knockdown.
I could have been angry with myself or the advice given, I could have been angry about the back of my head being clipped or I could have gotten up to fight back for the win. This is what I chose to do when faced with the 8 count:
Although we didn’t get the result that we aimed for, I feel blessed for my body to be healthy for the first time in two years (Rehabbed Double Meniscus Tear, MCL and Vastus Lateralis Strains, Facial Reconstrustion Surgery & a Left Hand Fracture Within the Past Year). My footwork and tactical skill is improving, and the third round was a “hard earned” lesson which has taught me to stay with a single camp for an extended amount of time; to build a good system of communication & tactical patterns between my team and I.
