Ong Bak Reverse Up Elbow KO in Real Right – 60 Second Breakdown

A Reverse-Up Elbow Causes Facial Fracture in Thailand

Sometimes moments that you have only seen in movies come to real life, inspiring us to chase our own creativity. I remember watching Ong Bak as a teenager, the movie featured Tony Jaa as the “Muay Thai” fighter elbowing and roundhouse kicking his way through herds of enemies.

One of Ong Bak’s famous techniques (also popularized by real life Muay Thai Legend Somrak) was the reverse up elbow. The reverse up elbow is an extremely difficult technique to land due to its movement pattern – it has to be cocked in front of your body before coming up. The two movements make it an easy read for your opponent. Unless. . .

. . . you set it up correctly.

My longtime friend Jack Farren, a student at one of our previous Thailand Training Camp experiences and now professionally sponsored fighter, recently fought, knocked out, and fractured the face of his opponent in Thailand with this exact technique.

Since we now train at the same camp, I was able to get him to take us through the setup and execution of the strike on film. Watch this week’s 60 Second Technique Breakdown that includes fight footage of the knockout itself:
