Setting Up Boxing Combinations and Shifting Before Throwing the Jab
Driving in on your opponent with a combination can be an intimidating feat. If caught early on, the counter we felt can keep us from opening up for the entire round – keeping our offensive tactics at bay.
This is a tactic I often like to use to set up my combinations: shifting my feet after the cross, creating an angle for the jab to stab through the opponent’s centerline and finishing the combination off with follow up punches.
Getting the opponent off balance with fundamental strikes such as the jab, opens up more options for follow up combinations. This tactic was inspired by a footwork pattern I was working on during my private lesson with Cathy McAleer who recently won her professional boxing debut at 40 years young:
This technique is deeply illustrated, diagrammed and further explained in offensive and defensive situations within my private lesson voiceover with Professional World Kickboxing Champion turned Boxer Cathy McAleer.
